‘We don’t do fast food. We do good food as fast as we can‘.
The sign that greets you as you walk through the doors of Shells Café. Based in the beautiful setting of the Strandhill beachfront with Knocknarea as the backdrop. Shells Café is a cosy and extremely tasty getaway from the wild westerly winds.
Drop in to Shells for a cuppa and one of their scrumptious treats on offer, from traditional apple cake to cute butter-cream cupcakes, there’s something for every sweet tooth.
You can also indulge in their ‘seasonal’ daily specials which have been known to fill up many a hungry surfer or sample something from the menu. Shells full Irish breakfast, ‘The Full House’, brings a whole new meaning to a fry up. Made with homemade beans and thick cut rashers, you won’t want it to end. Eggs and Soldiers (a family favourite of ours), BLT’s, The ‘NO BEEF’ Burger, Eggs Benedict, Chicken Salad and a range of different sandwiches are among some of the savoury delights that feature on their menu. All have the yummy factor and won’t let you down.
The menu in Shells Café reads ‘All our breads, bakes and cakes are homemade. We love local produce too‘ and it couldn’t be more true. Shells Café is very much based on home-baking and maintains that traditional aspect of Irish cuisine. I am yet to meet someone who has not said good, if not great things about this place.
Their products and ingredients, from farm fresh eggs to their Fairtrade coffee are all healthy, natural and mainly local produce.
The homemade juices of apple and orange and lemonades are also quite a popular indulgence too. All simple yet very unique and bring a happy little glow to your cheeks.
Dainty crockery and vintage mirrors decorate the walls, giving it that homely feeling and you can pick yourself up some homemade goodies, aprons and local art work to bring home to the family or share with friends.
Go on….. Indulge yourself :p
