‘And don’t forget the honey’…the words that greet you as you walk through the gates to the Peach Café on Camdeboo Farm.
A sweltering hot weekend came upon us with highs of 35 degrees and blue skies all round. With no beach in sight and the pool full of little kiddies, I thought a trip out to the Peach Café in Camdeboo Farm would cool us down and be the perfect way to spend the afternoon. The first thing that caught Tomás’ eye was the refreshing Peach Ice Tea which the waitress assured us was homemade. It was the perfect antidote to the blistering sun.
The menu is vibrant and full of seasonal, freshly picked vegetables. It didn’t take long for me to pick out the veggie fritters and Tomás went for the hearty Chicken Pie.
After lunch we took a gander around the farm, it’s so pleasant and a beautiful getaway from the main roads and the hustle bustle just 1 km away!
During Peach season (Oct-Dec) you can pick peaches to your heart’s content for R20/Kg (about 2 Euros/kg)
If there’s one thing that gets me, it’s fresh produce and I just couldn’t go past the little fruit and veg stall perched just outside the farm shop’s door. Gorgeous potatoes, onions, peppers, squash, lemons et al all local, seasonal and fresh.
When you venture inside to pay your bill, you’re greeted with shelves chock full of preserves, chutneys, pickles of all kinds, Sweet Chili Jam, Peach & Vanilla Jam, Local Honey and so many more. I had to exercise serious restraint not to buy one of each. We filled our box with plenty of fresh veggies and some jams all for kitchen experiments this week!
If you’re ever in town be sure to check this place out. It’s perfect for a get together with friends, a family day out, a couples lunch or just for one. It suits everyone. Next time, I plan on devouring one of their delicious looking browines!!
